Check out our Accomplishments page. We just updated it with the nearly 500 items we made and gave to charities in just the Summer and Fall of last year!

This month we are working on hats and scarves to send to Sole Care for Souls (www.solecareforsouls.org).

Sole Care for Souls provides free medical foot care for the homeless in the Minneapolis - St. Paul area. When you think about it, homeless people spend much of their time on their feet, without fresh socks and in many cases with ill fitting shoes.

Please consider sending hats and scarves of all sizes to Sole Care. They mostly need adult sizes, but could use some children’s sizes as well. You can also donate new socks for men, women and children: all sizes and styles are needed. They will also gladly accept monetary donations and do the shopping for you.

Sole Care for Souls not only provides medical treatment for their clients, they minister to them as well.

We are constantly changing and improving ways we do things. There are so many talented ladies in our group, with so many wonderful ideas!

The beauty of our group is that we are always open to improving the way we do things. We want to provide not only warm, but well made items and complete them in the most efficient way possible. This year we decided to make one group blanket each month using 9” blocks.  Why 9” blocks? We felt it was a good size and that the 6” block patterns could easily be converted to 9 inches. We are all enjoying the bigger blocks and assembling them is so much easier and goes quicker. It is also nice to have one blanket that everyone works on. 

Our January Blanket was made with I Love This Yarn! The blocks are Dark Denim and Summer Sky and the blanket is edged and framed in brown.

Our February Blanket was made with I Love This Yarn! The blocks are in Dark Raspberry and Old Rose and it is framed and edged in Grey Beard.

]]>Time for Fall!http://www.halfknits.com/home/2010/10/2/time-for-fall.htmlHalfknits2010-10-02T20:19:09ZSummer is over and the weather is cooling down here in Texas. The one thing I love about the fall is it just feels like “knitting weather”.

Over the summer the Halfknits have been busy knitting and crocheting. We try to work on little projects such as baby items and blocks during the heat of the summer. When the weather cools down we start assembling large blankets.

Currently we are working on several projects.

We have a new meeting place! First Presbyterian Church of Grapevine has graciously allowed us to meet in their Fellowship Hall. What a blessing to our group!

In December and January we made over 900 baby hats! We helped our friend Alice in Piggot, Arkansas and a family on Pine Ridge.

Right now we are working on 6” blanket blocks making all sizes of blankets.

We collected shawls, scarves and wheelchair blankets for the elderly in Young County, Texas. These items are gorgeous and will be distributed to the elderly throughout Young County!

This holiday season in honor of Baby Jesus, we are having our December Baby Hat Challenge. We encourage you to join us! No matter where you live, I'm sure there is an organization near you in need of baby hats at this time of the year.

Please use baby or soft yarn when making hats for babies. Their skin is delicate so please do not use scratchy worsted weight yarn. Also, please stay away from fun fur or novelty yarn as it comes off easily and can get in babies’ mouths. Check out our baby hat patterns in our patterns section.

With the blocks people brought and the ones that were made that day we were able to make 12 baby blankets! We donated 6 blankets to Loreto House in Denton and 6 to blankets to the Nursery at JPS Hospital in Fort Worth.

The Halfknits had a great time and were happy to have so many people join us that day! The food was delicious, the company delightful and making 12 blankets in 6 hours was a huge accomplishment!

Bring your favorite hooks and needles and a skein of pastel worsted weight yarn. We are having a "Salads and Sweets Potluck" so bring something yummy to share!

We will be knitting and crocheting 6-inch blocks to join together into baby blankets for charity.

There will be contests and prizes!
