After finishing a blanket drive with my charity knit/crochet group I had a large container of yarn remnants about 1oz in size or smaller. So I started wiping up baby hats using 2 strands of yarn for speed and stability. I loved making them so much I thought I would share the idea with you. It takes me around 2 hours to make a hat.

You will need;

Size 10 ½ knitting needles

About 2oz of yarn scraps

Brim

Cast on 40(44) stitches

Knit every row for 1in

Body

Row 1: purl

Row 2: knit

Repeat row 1 and 2 until you are 4 ½ in from the cast on edge, finishing with a purl row.

Crown

Row 1: *knit 8(9), knit 2 together* repeat across

Row 2:  purl

Row 3: *knit 7(8), knit 2 together* repeat across

Row 4:  purl

Row 5: *knit 6(7), knit 2 together* repeat across

Row 6:  purl

Row 7: *knit 2 together* repeat across

Row 8:  purl

Row 7: *knit 2 together* repeat across

Finishing

Cut yarn 18in from needles, place on yarn needle and thread through remaining stitches, pull to draw shut and form the top, use remaining yarn to sew the side seam, weave in all ends (no knots are needed because the second strand will keep the stitches stable)
